Small-town bookseller Christopher Dusk is happy with his quiet life, until he meets a shy artist and sells him the wrong book. Lucas, a maskmaker and mystic, will challenge Christopher's prosaic view of the world -- but both men are lying, to themselves and to each other, and Lucas may be the one to pay the price in the end.

I began work on Nameless in the fall of 2005 and completed it sometime in January 2006. At the time I did not post it publicly, hoping to send it around to agents and publishers and get it published. I spent the better part of a year soliciting any agent I could find to read the book, and then when I seemed to run out of resources I put it away for a while and moved on to other things. In late 2008 I rediscovered the novel and realised that the reason it had not attracted any attention from publishers was that it was terrible. I rewrote it and decided to post it for public consumption to get further reader feedback. BOY DID I EVER.

This new incarnation of Nameless is currently in its second draft (with at least one more to come), which you can download here:

The above files are complete, but if you are interested in the revised ending (the most significantly altered portion of the new draft) it is available here:

The revised postscript, the "Manifesto" I've referenced on my personal journal, is available here: Postscript Revised

The original as posted for review is linked below.

FYI -- I took some of the commentary on chapter one and wrote a process post for it, which you can find here. Depending on necessity, I'll probably be doing the same for each chapter, though I can't guarantee it. I'll link from posts here, when I do.

Uncertain why you're seeing this? Jack_And_Ellis has changed its name to [livejournal.com profile] theoriginalsam in anticipation of a second novel being posted at the comm, chapter one of which is below. For a longer explanation you can check the introduction post over at [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge. Enjoy!
