I'm rather liking this, especially the setting. The Temple of All Gods, neo-gothic for the Christians (good choice!), the atheists quarters and Valet's snarkiness. I was afraid zie was going to be bland, when you talked about Valets being shaped by their employer, like zie wouldn't have a personality. In some way zie reminds me of Ianto Jones...
One question: this sentence:
"Lord, what do you call the other one?"
Is 'Lord' used as a general exclamation? I'm afraid it associates too much with Christianity, especially when used by a character who doesn't practice a religion.
Oh, and a small error:
The tiny sleeping cubby I was given was small but pretty
I'd loose the 'tiny', otherwise you are repeating yourself.
