The review of John's book makes me giggle and cheer, every time. Explorer of guts and derider of glory!
The exchange between Erin and Ian about the number of people who work in the building always puts me in mind of "I know everything. And it says so on the bottom of the screen."
In re: R-I-mean-Zeke: No, Jess, don't!
The change of mood from the Feng Shui Goldfish to the awkward waiting and the conversation with the Messenger of Doom about injuries is really pronounced and swift -- and I mean that as a good thing. It both drops something heavy into the midst of things -- "this story's about to get serious" -- and leaves a lot suspensefully hanging overhead, with Sparks unwilling to talk about it and Sarah's conjectures (I love Sarah, by the way. Have I mentioned how much I love Sarah? Her "Mistress of the Black Arts of Admin" powers are completely believable, even when maybe they shouldn't be, and her blend of Feng Shui and pragmatism is just plain perfect).
