Ooops, posted too early by accident, sorry. And I hadn't signed in yet!

This is probably me being dim because I'm not always too hot on following plot, but the Head as an American agent confuses me a little. I don't remember much from last time, but it seemed before like he was his supervisor, and now it seems more like he's just making sure Ellis doesn't cause too much trouble for America, if you see what I mean, but isn't actually that interested in the project itself ... also why is he helping Ellis if he's an agent for America?

Awww, I like twirlynoodle's idea about the notes being in pencil being important, I think it's really character-revealing, and shows Jack and Clare's closeness if she understands the significance. It made me blink a little when you said in the first chapter that he uses pencil only when doing important notes, since I associate pen with important notes, but I could still understand it and it makes the mention of that seem more relevant. But then I write so I get the importance of what materials you use, I can't believe the person you asked didn't have a preference!

I don't really get why peppers as a weapon, but other people seem to ... peppers as in the vegetable? Does it really hurt when you get pepper juice in your eyes? I know there's pepper spray, but I always thought that was made of the other kind of pepper.

I love this chapter, something about it draws me in more than the previous ones, but I can't put my finger on why. Which is really helpful I know. I love the whole scene with Clare in Jack's room and why she changes her mind, and also how calm she is during the attack and then how worried she is afterwards when they're waiting for the Archchancellor - hers and Jack's characters are really well-drawn here, I think that's part of the charm.
