Loved the bit about hands and the boy's art essay! Also, Christopher walking Lucas home, the present exchange, and drunken Lucas being accepted as one of the elite hiding out behind the cafe. Christopher's discussion on trains, both in front of the crowd and in the narration later, says a lot about him.
I was going to mention this in the last chapter, but I forgot. Maybe it's because you did make it less complicated or maybe it's because I've been reading for nine chapters now, but the love triangle has gotten progressively easier to follow as time goes on.
I think I had more to say, but I'm exhausted. I am curious as to what the rest of the town people's favorites were, though :D
