I used to go shooting every now and then. If I rented a .22 (which was easier on my bad wrist anyway) instead of a .45, I could usually get out for under $20, as I recall. The ammo and the rental were cheaper for a .22, though the range fee was the same of course. I had and have no interest in shooting outside a range, so no reason to buy my own gun. Rentals are relatively cheap.
