This first glimpse of the characters makes each person clear and memorable. None of it feels "expositiony", but entertains instead. I am definitely sucked in by this, the first chapter. If I were browsing in a bookstore, I'd chose to take this book home.
I love how real the glimpse of staffers at work behind the scenes comes across. (They remind of me ducks, serene on the surface, but paddling like crazy underneath.) Ian's timely warning, "Everyone look attentive. Faces forward, he's about to thank us for our efforts," was both spot-on and chuckle-worthy.
And yes, Non's secret identity is definitely strongly hinted at--as is your alter ego's. ;)
