I was also somewhat irked by the lapse into another language, since it's a major pet peeve in things like Tolstoy and Holmes (and somehow, my copies never have translation notes).
As long as it's translated somewhere, it's fine, but otherwise, it's irritating.
But I did look it up on Google Translate, because I hate not knowing. It's harder to do that when I'm reading an actual book.
