Someone else commented on "discontented" too -- I've changed it to annoyed. :D
The guards line, "Jesus, you guys are like cats" - is that supposed to reference Colin's nickname? In which case, is the emphasis on the "are"?
It's more to demonstrate that the guards don't always think of them as people, or if they do, they see the ones with mojo as something weird and ungovernable.
I feel like the prison promise carries more weight - that Colin isn't just obeying because he respects Joseph, but on some level he *can't*. Is this right?
Somewhat. It's more to do with his bond to Joseph -- part of their deal is that Joseph keeps Colin honest. So on one level it's simply that Colin promised. On another level, because he promised, he knows there will be consequences if he does touch Galano. It's not that he physically can't touch him, he can; just that if he does, he'll suffer for breaking his promise.
why Gutierrez shows him this "fairly common" tattoo after saying "I got a few ideas".
I think that's another relic from the fic. I've added "And I got this" before he shows off the tatt.
Just realized I never questioned how Noel has ink and needles in prison. Huh.
The ink is scrounged -- the needles are probably actually bits of wire or something equally sharp, like metal filings. There's a pretty booming contraband business in any prison.
Tattoos are actually really serious business, in terms of prison law; you can get punished severely for getting or inking them. If Colin had actually faced a real guard with his face tatt, he'd probably have been interrogated as to who gave it to him and then thrown in Seg.
The taking pictures with the phone really doesn't sit right with me.
Someone else commented on that too, but I'm not sure how to get round it -- Joseph has to be able to send the photos to the office in order to get a warrant.
