Pacing is still very on. Tension ratcheting up, mysteries piling on top of one another, stakes set... I'm actually getting very afraid for Colin's little prison family, this read-through. Laney and Gutierrez's "theological dispute" isn't bothering me this time around, either; usually arguments about religion in books are either so simplistic or so twisty that I just wind up pissed off and rolling my eyes. In this draft it's like all the players, all the mojo, all the different ways people have of seeing angels and demons, combined with the lack of traditional theological mythos (Jesus is a punk, Gutierrez don't speak to him! XD) have put the arguments about what's real and what's not, who protects you and who doesn't, in a place where they're both interesting and relevant. Good job!

...Although I may have started shipping Noel/Colin this chapter again. It's the hand Colin puts on his hip, I think. They're so physically, supportively, mutually intimate. It makes for a really interesting dynamic. I'm glad it's there, and I like the C/L/J enough this time around that I don't want them torn apart to explore the Noel stuff... but I am still a bit wistful that it won't ever be the center of the story.
