This, I think, is the best chapter you've written so far. I love the way your skirt the edges of history, blending our history with theirs and coming up with something entirely different and sometimes even breathtaking. The story of the Battle of the Pyramids was attention-grabbing, exciting, and heartbreaking. I loved hearing all of the character's opinions about war and the rules of war. Jack's opinion was surprisingly cruel and disturbingly amoral, although this could be accounted to his extreme youth, his grief over his parents' deaths, and his inexperience with the world.
I loved how you slipped in cities and other tidbits that just keep the atmosphere of this new world in the novel. I also love, love the letters/lectures/etc. you sneak in to give us a sneak-peak of the past or the far future.
Ellis' line about liking the rope brought a big smile to my face, and the image of Ms. Christian running with a tripod was amusing. I did like how you including Jack speedily building the rest of the airship because I did wonder about Helena's swift timeline upgrade last chapter when Jack said that he still had to construct Clare's sleeping quarters.
